Question on buildme.sh from latest slimserver-vendor git repo

Hello,

I hope this is the right forum/subforum for this...
I am having an issue with running the buildme.sh script from the latest slimserver-vendor git repo.

First a bit of background: I've been running LMS for over a year using an older pre-packaged version (7.8.0 - 1349191090 @ Mon Feb 4 11:12:01 GMT 2013) built for 64-bit FreeBSD systems. Last week I attempted to do the usual system updates via portsnap but it informed me that Perl 5.14 is now deprecated and I needed to upgrade. I decided at this point that it would be a good time to switch to running either the final 7.8 LMS or try the latest 7.9 directly from git.

I'm using these versions...
freebsd: 9.2-RELEASE-p10
perl: v5.16.3
gcc: 4.8.3_2

When I try to build and install the files in the CPAN directory on the slimserver-vendor git repo (using buildme.sh), I'm getting the following error when building the Media Scan library:

/usr/local/bin/ld: /root/slimserver-vendor/CPAN/build/include/../lib/libavcodec.a(deinterlace.o): relocation R_X86_64_PC32 against symbol `ff_pw_4' can not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC

I've attached the full output of buildme.sh
Any assistance, pointers or hints as to what I can try next would be very much appreciated! Thank you.

EDIT: Oops, the attached log was stdout only, I've replaced it with a log that includes both stdout and stderr. Thanks :)
