I've been using squeezelite on linux platforms for years now. And I've always gotten it from googlecode. I think the original project was archived
https://code.google.com/archive/p/squeezelite/downloads
Today I stumbled across this
https://sourceforge.net/projects/lmsclients/
I downloaded the 1.8 something something version armv6hf for my raspberry pi. Works perfect.
Question: Both squeezelite versions work. The original version has been a big dependable tank for years. I've seen guys write fancy stay alive scripts and I don't think I've ever seen squeezelite crash and believe me if it could be done I'd have done it.
Is there any compelling reason to update to the 1.8 version, or I guess specifically what are the advantages? Leaner, meaner code? Better sound?
I have squeezelite on probably no less than 8 devices in my home and probably 3 at work.
