Flaky Squeezeplug LMS on GoFlex Net server

I've spent ages trying to get a system working reliably on a Linux based server but have an ongoing problem.

I can't get LMS to run for more than a few hours before the players (all wifi connected) each lose contact with the music server. This can happen whilst I'm listening to it. When I enter Settings to select Music Source, the linux sys is often missing but the Windows source is always visible.

If I select New Music, it's almost guaranteed to crash & player reports it can't find music source. I've reduced New Music albums from 100 to 50 but it still doesn't work.

I can still see the server via WinSCP, & Putty usually works, it's just the players that lose connection.
I've changed the hub 3 times so that isn't likely to be the problem. I've changed the USB stick loaded with Squeezeplug 3 times. I've lost count of the number of hard & soft reboots.
I have LMS running under Win7 & that music source always works so I can't see the router, players (3) or wifi being the problem. Incidentally, I want to move to GoFlex Net based sys so I can switch off the PC & still have a music sys. I wish I'd never started.

Can anyone please give me a potential solution? I feel that a New Music scan crashing the system could be a clue to the problem & that the network isn't an issue as LMS works well under Windows.
