piCorePlayer + TTS: which package?

Hi all.
I'm contemplating adding a bit of TTS to a PCP 3.2 player.
I'd like a clean, french voice. Rendering doesn't need to be quick.
I want a stand-alone solution, no cloud service.

I've used TTS on and off over the years, I remember I've been using svox and espeak, and MBROLA voices.
What would be a current recommendation?
