pCP 3.20 WIFI on RPi 3

My config: piCorePlayer | piCorePlayer v3.20 | linux 4.9.21-pcpAudioCore_v7 | piCore v8.01 | Squeezelite v1.8.6-986

Is there any way to get the internal wifi of the PI3 working in the "audio optimized" version?
I heard that this isn't supported - does an external dongle do the trick?
